Transitions in environment and settlement in the Western Desert of Roman Egypt

Our Postdoc Brandon McDonald spoke at Oxford’s lecture series The Roman Discussion Forum.

The talk centered on major environmental changes that occurred at oasis settlements between the later second and fifth centuries CE. The paper considered whether landscape transformations were the product of a climatic transition or human impact, and it looked at the resulting shift in the principal commodities of oasis towns.
